Chiranjeevi Reacts on Uyyalawada Row

As we all know, Megastar Chiranjeevi's historical magnum opus Sye Raa Narasimhareddy has been made on the life history of India's first ever freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimhareddy.

Before the film's team of Sye Raa approached the relatives of the freedom fighter to learn some facts, only a few people who live in immediate vicinity of Uyyalawada knew about the details while entire nation including Telugu states forgot the great sacrifice of the first freedom fighter.

As and when Chirajeevi decided to do the project and the film got materialised, Uyyalawada Narasimhareddy's name became popular across the world. And the descendents of the freedom fighter got an immense respect from all corners. Altogether, Sye Raa film turned a bless in disguise for the successors of Uyyalawada.

In spite of showing gratitude, some people who claimed to be descendants of Uyyyalawada Narasimhareddy filed case in high court seeking money from the makers. Finally, the court gave a verdict against their unjustifiable petition and permitted the film's release.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi reacted on the controversy in a Telugu newspaper's interview published today. Following are the excerpts of his reaction.

* Actually, Uyyalawada's descendants are innocents. They were provoked to file cases on Sye Raa team by some people. And the issue was unnecessarily embroiled a controversy by a few news channels and some social media platforms.

* If any historical personality's biopic is made after 100 years, the successors lose rights to demand compensation. That's what the high court said. Supreme Court, however, adjudged that 60 years are enough for the descendants to lose their rights on the story. This judgement was given in Mangal Pande's case.

* Earlier, historical films like Gandhi, Padmavat and Manikarnika were made but none of the successors demanded money.

* We actually directed NV Prasad garu to pursue on financial assistance to the successors of Uyyalawada's descendants. But then, leaving a shocker to us, they claimed they were 25 families and each family would need Rs.2 crores. How unreasonable and irrational it is! Moreover, if we give money to them, more number of families may claim they were successors of Uyyalawada Narasimhareddy.

* If at all Sye Raa gets profits, we'll think about doing some favour to Uyyalawada village.
